Passing your driver’s test is one thing. Knowing what to do when the unexpected happens is another.
The Young Driver Academy is a hands-on driving program designed to help young drivers develop real-world skills, confidence, and vehicle control in a safe and controlled environment. Through a series of interactive driving exercises, participants will learn how to react to skids, avoid obstacles, control weight transfer, and make critical decisions behind the wheel.
Hosted at Calabogie Motorsports Park, this unique program gives drivers aged 15–25 the opportunity to experience situations rarely covered in traditional driver training.
What You’ll Learn
Participants will rotate through three instructor-led driving stations before putting everything together in a final accident avoidance challenge.
Skid Pad
Learn how to recognize and recover from understeer and oversteer in a controlled environment. Drivers will experience traction loss firsthand and develop the instincts needed to react safely when road conditions become challenging.
Slalom Course
Build vehicle control, precision, and spatial awareness through a cone course designed to teach smooth steering inputs, vision techniques, and proper vehicle placement.
Emergency Lane Change
Practice one of the most important real-world driving skills. Drivers will learn how to safely avoid unexpected obstacles while maintaining vehicle control under pressure.
Accident Avoidance Finale
The final exercise combines everything learned throughout the day. Participants will navigate a course that incorporates steering, obstacle avoidance, braking, and vehicle control in a realistic driving scenario.
